Authorizing Access to Your Google Sheets Documents
Once you have authorized Templater to access your Google Sheets documents, Templater remains signed into your Google Drive account. If your After Effects preferences are reset, you will need to grant Templater access to your account again.
WARNING Due to changes in Google security requirements, you must use Templater v3.7 or later to use this integration.
There are two steps in authorizing Templater to access your Google Sheets data source. First, you must grant Templater access to your account. Then, in a separate application called File Picker, you must grant access to the specific Sheets you want Templater to use. The following procedure covers both steps.
Authorize Templater for Google Sheets
- In the Templater panel, in the Batch Assets, click the Google Drive icon.
- In the Google Spreadsheet Setup dialog, click Sign In.
- In the browser window, log in to the Google Drive account you want to authorize.
- Click Allow on any screens that discuss the actions and permissions Templater will receive. You must allow all of the access requested or Templater will not be able to use data in your Google Sheets data source.
NOTE By default, these screens often load with checkboxes for various permissions, none of which are selected. Make sure you select all the checkboxes before you click Allow.
- When the browser redirects to a confirmation screen, switch back to Templater and click Authorize.
- In the browser window, click Open File Picker.
NOTE If you do not see a list of your GoogleSheets in File Picker, repeat steps 4-6 and then open File Picker again. You first followed these steps to authorize Templater to access your GoogleSheets. This time, you are authorizing File Picker to authorize them as well.
- In the Google Spreadsheet Setup dialog, under Grant Access to Specific Sheets, click Launch File Picker for Google Drive.
- In the browser window, click Open File Picker.
NOTE If you do not see a list of your Google Sheets in File Picker, repeat steps 4-6 and then open File Picker again. You first followed these steps to authorize Templater to access your Google Sheets. This time, you are authorizing File Picker to authorize them as well.
- In the list of GoogleSheets, select one or more files that you want to use with Templater. Select multiple consecutive or non-consecutive files using the standard method for your operating system.
- Click Select.
- Back in the Google Spreadsheet Setup dialog, click Refresh Sheets to confirm your selections now appear in the list.
- To link your After Effects project to a specific worksheet, see Linking a Google Sheets Document to Your After Effects Project.
