Linking a Google Sheets Document to Your After Effects Project

Before you begin, ensure that Templater is authorized to access Google Sheets documents in your Google Drive account

Authorize Templater to Access Specific Sheets

WARNING  As of Templater 3.7, we have implemented a new File Picker workflow for connecting to Google Sheets data. This requires an extra step of authorizing access to individual Sheets documents.

  1. In the Google Spreadsheet Setup dialog, under Grant Access to Specific Sheets, click Launch File Picker for Google Drive.
  2. In the browser window, click Open File Picker.

NOTE  If you do not see a list of your GoogleSheets in File Picker, you will need to authorize the File Picker to access your GoogleDrive. You first followed these steps to authorize Templater to access your GoogleSheets. This time, you are authorizing File Picker to authorize them as well.

  3. In the Select a file dialog, click the drop down menu and choose Spreadsheets to filter the list for only Sheets documents.
  4. In the list of GoogleSheets, select one or more files that you want to use with Templater. Select multiple consecutive or non-consecutive files using the standard method for your operating system.
  5. Click Select.
  6. Back in the Google Spreadsheet Setup dialog, click Refresh Sheets to confirm your selections now appear in the list.

NOTE  If your selected spreadsheet documents are not listed after clicking Refresh Sheets, try entering the name of the document in the search field and click Search. Clicking Clear resets any and all filtering and forces a refresh of the file listing.

Link Templater to Your Sheets Document

WARNING  Due to changes in Google security requirements, you must use Templater v3.5 or later to use this integration.

  1. In the Templater panel, under Batch Assets, click the Google Drive icon.
  2. In the list under Select your Worksheet, click a worksheet tab name. If you don't see the sheet you want, enter a query term the name in the field above the list box and click Search.
  3. Wait for Templater to retrieve the tab names from the selected sheet. Under the sheet name, select the specific worksheet tab you want to link to your project. Click OK.
  4. In the Templater panel, click Save to save your selected data source as a project file preset.
